Happy Halloween! Get ready for costumes, candy, and FUN!

Take this opportunity to have a mindful moment with your little ones. We know how excited they get about candy, so this can be a great time to introduce mindful eating.

Mindful Halloween Candy Eating

Instead of scarfing all your candy if you trick-or-treat, choose one small piece per day and use your senses to enjoy eating it.

  1. Look at your candy closely. What color and shape is it?
  2. Smell your candy. What aroma do you notice
  3. Notice what is happening in your mouth! Have you begun to salivate?
  4. Place your candy in your mouth but no do not chew yet. This part is tricky!
  5. When you must chew, chew slowly. Notice what you can smell, taste, hear and feel.
  6. When you're ready, swallow. Notice when you can no longer feel the sensation of food in your mouth or throat.
  7. Reflect! What was that like for you? How does this differ from the way we normally eat candy? How might eating more mindfully benefit you in leading a healthy life?
