Take this opportunity to have a mindful moment with your little ones. We know how excited they get about candy, so this can be a great time to introduce mindful eating.
Mindful Halloween Candy Eating
Instead of scarfing all your candy if you trick-or-treat, choose one small piece per day and use your senses to enjoy eating it.
- Look at your candy closely. What color and shape is it?
- Smell your candy. What aroma do you notice
- Notice what is happening in your mouth! Have you begun to salivate?
- Place your candy in your mouth but no do not chew yet. This part is tricky!
- When you must chew, chew slowly. Notice what you can smell, taste, hear and feel.
- When you're ready, swallow. Notice when you can no longer feel the sensation of food in your mouth or throat.
- Reflect! What was that like for you? How does this differ from the way we normally eat candy? How might eating more mindfully benefit you in leading a healthy life?
