Kids Yoga Games
This activity was one I did when I first started teaching yoga to children. When I noticed how mystified the children were with the holiday season, a colleague of mine suggested pairing a pose with each of the 12 Days of Christmas. You can play the song alone, you can sing the song as you do the poses, or you can practice the poses one at a time and simply enjoy the song afterward.
It’s super fun to try to remember which pose goes with which verse and to have the children attempt to teach it back in order.
If you’re concerned about this material not being secular, use caution. This is best practiced in environments where mentioning and celebrating Christmas is welcomed.
Use our mindfulness activities, crafts, and coloring pages when kids need a moment to be calm and focused. We created holiday-themed activities that kids can enjoy in their free time, such as brain breaks, transitional activities, and more.

Children are more likely to manage themselves when they have the appropriate tools to do so. If a strong emotion is present for a child and he or she has a tool to notice it and manage it, they can be more self-sufficient. Tools for awareness and self-soothing are key here.
Relationship skills are a benefit of being self-aware, socially aware, and being able to self-manage. Children can be more compassionate, empathetic, and connected to themselves, their peers, siblings, teachers, parents and others with the regular practice of these tools. The result of these skills is better decision making. Rather than lash out, children will gain access to the vocabulary and tools to slow down and make better choices.
According to CASEL, "social-emotional learning is the process through which children and adults acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.”
This workshops weaves yoga teachings with social-emotional learning practices that help children deal with strong emotions as they arise throughout the day. Learn breathing techniques, yoga postures, and mantras for each of four big emotions young children deal with on a daily basis.
Participants will learn breathing techniques, yoga postures, and mindfulness exercises designed to help students develop: - Self-awareness - Self-management - Relationship skills - Decision-making skills
Learn about four big emotions -- sad, angry, excited and distracted -- and how children can: - Identify when these emotions arise - Develop skills for coping with these feelings and setting goals - Use social-awareness skills to establish and maintain positive relationships with others

Because teaching children’s yoga is much more than yoga poses, we see this course as a pathway to mature as an educator, parent, instructor, counselor, or whatever role you hold or plan to hold. Go beyond the poses by incorporating mindfulness, self-reflection and self-inquiry, art, meditation, positive self-talk, relaxation, student-lead programming, and more.
